Role-based access control

Settings access is controlled by WordPress capabilities. Only users with ‘manage_options’ capability can access SummitCite settings — you control who sees what.

Configure in three steps

Navigate tabs, adjust settings, and save — all sanitized through the native WordPress flow.

1

Navigate tabs

Open Settings → SummitCite. Five tabs organize all configuration options. Each tab is self-contained with contextual help text.

2

Configure

Adjust settings per tab: log retention, bot rules, schema types, llms.txt content. All changes are sanitized before saving.

3

Save & verify

Changes are saved via WordPress’s native settings save flow. The AEO Health Dashboard immediately reflects your new configuration.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about the SummitCite Settings API.

What are the 5 settings tabs?

The five tabs are: General (global plugin settings), Crawler Log (log retention, auto-cleanup, export), Robots.txt (AI crawler rules, bot editor), Schema (schema types, conflict resolution), and llms.txt (custom content, cache settings).

What does ‘strictest sanitize callbacks’ mean?

Every settings input is passed through WordPress sanitize callbacks. Text fields use sanitize_text_field(), textareas use sanitize_textarea_field(), URLs use esc_url_raw(), integers use absint(), and options arrays use wp_kses_post(). No raw input ever reaches the database.

How does the bot rule editor work?

The bot rule editor presents each AI crawler as a row with three options: Allow (full access), Disallow (block entirely), or Custom (specify allowed and disallowed paths). Custom mode shows a text input for path patterns. Changes apply to your live robots.txt immediately.

Can I export my settings?

Yes. Settings → SummitCite → General includes an Export button that downloads all settings as a JSON file. You can import this file on another WordPress site to replicate your SummitCite configuration instantly.

Does it use the native WordPress Settings API?

Yes, 100%. SummitCite uses register_setting(), add_settings_section(), and add_settings_field() — the native WordPress Settings API. No custom database tables for settings. All values are stored in the wp_options table with proper sanitization.
