Schema generation in three steps

Fully automatic. No manual markup required.

1

Detect content type

SummitCite uses DOMDocument to analyze your post HTML and determine if it’s an Article, FAQ, or HowTo based on heading structure and content patterns.

2

Generate JSON-LD

Based on detected content type, the appropriate schema.org JSON-LD is generated with all required and recommended properties extracted from your content.

3

Validate & inject

Generated schema is validated against schema.org specs and injected into the page head. SEO plugin conflicts are checked and resolved automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about JSON-LD schema generation in SummitCite.

What is JSON-LD and why does it matter for AI search?

JSON-LD (JavaScript Object Notation for Linked Data) is a structured data format that helps search engines and AI systems understand your content. When AI search engines like ChatGPT and Perplexity generate answers, they prioritize content with proper schema markup because it’s machine-readable and unambiguous.

Which schema types does SummitCite generate?

SummitCite generates three schema.org types: Article (for blog posts and news), FAQPage (for Q&A content), and HowTo (for step-by-step guides). These are the three most commonly cited schema types by AI search engines.

Will this conflict with Yoast or Rank Math schema?

No. SummitCite detects when Yoast SEO, Rank Math, or 4 other SEO plugins are already generating schema for a page. In that case, SummitCite delegates schema generation to the SEO plugin to avoid duplicate JSON-LD output. You can see the delegation status in the Conflict Detector dashboard.

How does DOMDocument parsing work?

SummitCite uses PHP’s built-in DOMDocument extension to parse your post’s HTML content. This allows it to accurately detect content structures like FAQ blocks (Q&A pairs), HowTo steps (ordered lists with headings), and Article metadata (author, date, image) — much more reliably than regex-based approaches.

Can I manually edit the generated schema?

Yes. While SummitCite generates schema automatically, you can override specific properties via the post editor. Custom values take precedence over auto-detected values. You can also disable schema generation per-post if needed.
