Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about robots.txt AI rules in SummitCite.

How does SummitCite modify my robots.txt?

SummitCite uses WordPress’s robots_txt filter hook to inject AI crawler rules. This means rules are added dynamically when your robots.txt is requested — no physical file modification needed. Your existing rules are preserved, and AI rules are appended intelligently.

Will this override my existing robots.txt rules?

No. SummitCite only adds AI-specific rules. Your existing rules (for Googlebot, Bingbot, etc.) remain untouched. The RFC-compliant parser reads your current robots.txt and merges AI rules without conflicts.

What is the three-option bot rule editor?

For each AI crawler, you can choose: Allow (full site access), Disallow (block entirely), or Custom (specify exact allowed and disallowed paths). This gives you granular control without editing robots.txt syntax manually.

Does this work with Yoast or Rank Math robots.txt?

Yes. SummitCite’s conflict detector checks if Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, SEOPress, The SEO Framework, or Slim SEO are also modifying robots.txt. When conflicts are detected, the audit dashboard shows resolution suggestions.

Can I see what rules were changed and when?

Yes. Every rule change is logged in the audit trail with timestamp, crawler affected, old value, and new value. You can review the full history and restore previous rule sets if needed.
